It didn't take Jermain Defoe very long to get acclimated to MLS. Not long at all.
Defoe marked his MLS and Toronto FC debut with two goals in the first half of TFC's season-opening 2-1 win over the Seattle Sounders at a raucous CenturyLink Field. Off a quick transition, Defoe received a through ball down the center from Jonathan Osorio, splitting a pair of defenders and clinically finishing by slipping a low shot by Stefan Frei in the 17th minute.
Seven minutes later, Defoe pounced on a back pass into no-man's land by Marco Pappa, went at center back Djimi Traore and beat Frei with another low shot.
Defoe, whose 124 Premier League goals are 14th most all-time, has high expectations to meet after TFC spent a fortune, by MLS standards, in an effort to lure him from Tottenham. So far, so good.
