Moment / With under a minute to play in the NFC Championship Game, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Joe Montana rolled right to pass. Pressured by three Cowboys defenders, Montana faded backward before throwing a high pass that was snagged in the back of the endzone by 6’4” receiver Dwight Clark, who caught it with his fingertips.
Impact / The play launched the 49ers to the Super Bowl, where they beat the Bengals 26-21 in what was the beginning of a dynastic run that saw San Francisco win four championships by the end of the decade.
