Moment / Cal Ripken Jr. broke what many considered to be an unbreakable record—Lou Gehrig’s 2,130 consecutive games played. Ripken went 2-for-4 with a home run, and the Orioles won 4-2 in the record-breaking appearance.

Impact / Ripken went on to play in 2,632 consecutive games. The streak ended when he removed himself from the starting lineup on September 20, 1998. He played until the end of the 2001 season and was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 2007.
