Lucy Li, 11, misses cut after shooting second-round 78 at U.S. Women's Open

Lucy Li, the 11-year-old prodigy who became the youngest qualifier in U.S. Women's Open historyfailed to make the cut after her second straight 8-over 78 at Pinehurst No. 2 on Friday.

The cut line was between 9- and 10-over.

Li had two birdies in each round, but she also had three double-bogeys and two triples.

"It was a lot of fun," Li said as she stood on a box to reach the microphone at her post-round press conference. "… You have to be patient. That's what I learned. Definitely. Because I did a good job of that this week and it really helped because I got triples and I came back with birdies. That's what's really important."

Another former prodigy, Michelle Wie, held a three-shot lead at 4-under after two rounds of 68. She was one of only two players under par.
