The Lightning have had a few… questionable uniform choices during their 22-season history as an NHL franchise.

A few seasons ago, they made the choice to move away from their original black motif, going with a simple white and blue set -- a move that was (mostly) well received

Today, the team went back to their roots, introducing a new black third jerseys during Fan Fest at Amalie Arena, and other than being black, it isn't really all that different from last year's their extra uniform. The 'BOLTS' word mark remains the same, while the wrist stripes were eschewed for a full-length shoulder versions.

While the new third-jersey transition mostly a lateral move, it's far better than what some of the players were led to believe it could have been.

The new kits are available for pre-order here, along with a schedule of when the Lightning plan to wear their new duds.
