This year is the 50th Anniversary of The New York City Marathon and although tens of thousands of people were looking forward to running in it, they'll have to sit this one out.

The world's largest marathon has been canceled as it's been deemed too risky amidst the current coronavirus pandemic.

The marathon usually hosts around 50,000 runners and 1 million fans from all over the world but this marks the second time it has been canceled. In 2012, after Hurricane Sandy hit the Tri-state area officials canceled the marathon last minute.

The New York City Marathon is one of many events that will not be taking place this year. Boston Marathon and Berlin Marathon have also been canceled for 2020, as health experts try to contain the coronavirus from spreading.
