Day 6: Riviera Maya, Mexico

Countdown to Swimsuit 2014, Legendary Locations: Day 6

RIVIERA MAYA, the stretch of coastline on the east side of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, lures tourists seeking a experiential potpourri. The region is home to several of Mexico's 31 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Maya ruins, like those found within the ancient walled city of Tulum, and Nohoch-Muul, the Yucatan's highest Maya pyramid, are perfect for those who like to punctuate their lazy beach days with history lessons. Equally enticing, though are the warm Caribbean waters that contain the world's second longest reef system, the Great Maya Reef; it's an ecosystem that is also home to the one of the world's largest population of manatees, a species that clearly knows prime real estate when they see it.
