Sam Querrey breaks racket in quick loss to Tomas Berdych at Sony Open

Tuesday March 26th, 2013

That'll happen when you lose a set in just 22 minutes, as Sam Querrey did in his 6-1, 6-1 loss to Tomas Berdych in the fourth round of the Sony Open.

"Just one of those awful days," Querrey said. "The more you miss the harder it gets to get the ball in. It just kept getting worse."

Playing his first tournament as the No. 1 American, Querrey received a third-round walkover when Milos Raonic withdrew with illness and was then swept off the court by Berdych in just 51 minutes. His first-serve accuracy was below 40 percent for the match and he hit 18 unforced errors off his forehand wing alone. So no serve and no forehand? That essentially amounts to a weaponless Querrey, and Berdych, who was coming off back-to-back tough three-setters, took full advantage.
