Coco Gauff knocked off defending champion Naomi Osaka, 6-3, 6-4 in the round’s other major upset. This served as a rematch from the third round at the U.S. Open last September, where Osaka defeated Gauff in straight sets. On Friday, Osaka made 30 unforced errors, to Gauff’s 17. The 15-year-old Gauff will meet fellow American and 14-seed Sofia Kenin in the fourth round.
