Biathlete asks for reduced ban for Olympic doping

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) Two-time Olympic cross-country skiing champion Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle of Germany wants sport's highest court to cut her two-year ban for doping at the Sochi Games to three months.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport says Sachenbacher-Stehle is requesting a fast-track process to appeal her suspension by the International Biathlon Union.

Her two-year ban took effect Feb. 17, the day she tested positive for the banned stimulant methylhexaneamine.

Sachenbacher-Stehle, who was stripped of her fourth-place finish in biathlon mass start, claims she took the substance inadvertently in a dietary supplement.

CAS says she seeks a reduced ban of three months, which she has already served.

The IBU must consent to the appeal being processed on a fast-track basis.

Sachenbacher-Stehle won two Olympic golds and three silvers in cross-country skiing before switching to biathlon in 2012.
