The Vols pulled away in the second half to beat visiting Vanderbilt on Tuesday night 77-68. Vescovi and Julian Phillips each scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds for Tennessee, Uros Plavsic added 11 points and six boards and Zakai Zeigler handed out nine assists.
The Wildcats cut an 11-point deficit with 3:58 remaining to just one with 51 seconds to play, but visiting South Carolina handed them their first loss at Rupp Arena this season, 71-68, on Tuesday night. Tshiebwe piled up 19 points, 12 assists and three steals and CJ Fredrick came off the bench to add 14 points.
In a series that dates back to 1910, Kentucky leads Tennessee 158-77. But the Vols took two of three meetings last season. After the Wildcats got a 107-79 blowout win at Lexington on Jan. 15, the Volunteers won 76-63 at Knoxville on Feb. 15 and 69-62 on March 12 in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament at Tampa.
