The Cardinals' defense melted down in the second half Thursday night at Wake Forest, as the Demon Deacons outscored them 43-23 after the break en route to a 68-57 victory. Louisville, which led by nine at the half, got 15 points from Jones while Cochran scored 11. Van Lith was held to eight points on 4-of-12 shooting and committed six turnovers.
Syracuse got an early lead and steadily pulled away for a 90-72 win over visiting Virginia on Thursday night. Fair poured in 36 points, Alaina Rice had 18 points and seven assists and Georgia Woolley came off the bench for 17 points.
Louisville is 18-7 against the Orange all-time, including an 86-77 homecourt win on Dec. 29. Van Lith went for 24 points and six assists for the Cardinals while Hyman netted 27 points for Syracuse.
