Michigan State is trying to climb the ladder but in the meantime, the Spartans have to feel good that they beat No. 23 Rutgers two weeks ago 70-57. Both teams are 2-4 on the road this season. The Scarlet Knights should be very confident going into this game just by looking at the box score of their last matchup. Rutgers beat Minnesota 90-55. Not only did Rutgers have the most assists it's ever had as a program with 30, it also had its largest margin of victory ever in Big Ten play. Rutgers had six players score in double digits as everything was working offensively. The Scarlet Knights were up 10 at the half but kicked it into an even higher gear, outscoring the Gophers by 24 in the second half.
The Spartans meanwhile are coming off a loss but it was to No. 1 Purdue. Michigan State was held to just 22 points in the first half. While the Spartans stepped it up in the second, it was too little too late as the Boilermakers never slowed down to win 77-61. A.J. Hoggard led the way with 20 points but the Spartans will have to score more collectively to grab this upset on the road.
