Week 1: Oregon vs. Georgia

Sept. 3 at 3:30 p.m., ABC

The season kicks off with a storybook coaching matchup as Dan Lanning makes his debut as Oregon coach against Georgia. Lanning spent the last three seasons as Kirby Smart’s defensive coordinator, leading the top defense in the country to its first national title in more than 40 years. Expectations are high for the Ducks this year, and the introduction of Auburn transfer Bo Nix only adds to the pressure of starting the season with an SEC opponent.

Week 2: Alabama at Texas

Sept. 10, noon, Fox

Week 2 brings another coach facing their former program as Texas’s Steve Sarkisian is one of five former Alabama staffers who are now with the Longhorns. Sarkisian won the 2020 Broyles Award for the best assistant coach in college football as offensive coordinator with the Tide. Any game at Texas’s stadium is bound to be electric—add in one of the most storied programs in college football coming to town, and this is a game no fan will want to miss.

Week 3: Miami at Texas A&M

Sept. 17, 9 p.m., ESPN

Two known recruiters go head-to-head as Jimbo Fisher enters another season with Texas A&M and Mario Cristobal makes his debut as Miami’s coach. The Aggies’ starting quarterback is still up for debate, but they have two good options in LSU transfer Max Johnson and Haynes King (who shone in the first game of the 2021 season as a freshman before suffering a season-ending injury the following week). Miami’s Tyler Van Dyke, on the other hand, won ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year in ’21.

Week 4: Arkansas at Texas A&M

Sept. 24, TBD

Texas A&M’s fourth home game of the season is against Arkansas, and the Aggies will be looking for revenge after the Razorbacks handed them their first loss of the season in 2021. The Razorbacks had their best season since ’11 last year, going 9–4 and .500 in conference play. Quarterback KJ Jefferson should be a returning starter for the team, and the offense will be boosted nonetheless by a deep ball carrier group—including Rocket Sanders, who is in the running for the best first name for a running back in college football this season.

Week 5: LSU at Auburn

Oct. 1, TBD

The Tiger Bowl returns with two strong teams in LSU and Auburn this year. New LSU coach Brian Kelly is working with four returning starters in his wide receiver corps and a trusted quarterback in Myles Brennan, while Auburn returns star Tank Bigsby and three out of four starting pass-catchers. The Tigers also have a few transfers coming in for the quarterback role (LSU transfer TJ Finley is the most notable), plus Oregon’s Jayson Jones to help bolster the defensive line.

Week 6: Texas A&M at Alabama

Oct. 8, TBD

Last October, Texas A&M pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the year when it beat Alabama in the Tide’s first loss since 2019. The win on a last-minute field goal made Jimbo Fisher the first of Nick Saban’s former assistants to beat him. But in ’20, Alabama was also the only team to beat the Aggies. A game between these two teams is bound to keep fans guessing, and we can only hope that this year lives up to the hype.

Week 7: Auburn at Ole Miss

Oct. 15, TBD

Auburn currently has a six-game win streak going against Ole Miss, dating back to 2016. But Lane Kiffin’s work bringing in transfers (and a top-25 recruiting class) to the Rebels’ program ahead of this season may pay off with two of the new players already on preseason watchlists: tight end Michael Trigg and linebacker Troy Brown are both on the shortlists for national awards at their respective positions.

Week 8: Texas A&M at South Carolina

Oct. 22, TBD

It's unclear where either team will stand at this point in the season, but this will nonetheless be an interesting match up to see whether South Carolina can be a true contender in the SEC. With Texas A&M’s highly ranked recruiting classes, there’s a lot of potential for the program to be at the top of the conference at just past the halfway mark of the season.

Week 9: Florida vs. Georgia

Oct. 29, TBD

This yearly rivalry will take place at a neutral site in TIAA Bank Field (home of the Jacksonville Jaguars), making it one of the more interesting matchups for a team coming off the national title. Last year, the eventual champions beat Florida handily; however, in 2020 Florida came out on top with a score of 44–28. Plus, recent coaching changes in the Florida program over the last year add another level of pressure for the Gators to bounce back.

Week 10: Alabama at LSU

Nov. 5, TBD

What else is an SEC fan going to watch this on the First Saturday in November? Though Alabama has nearly double the number of wins in the series (and this year will likely be no different as the Tide are ranked No. 1 in the Preseason AP Top 25), it is nonetheless a storied rivalry between two worthy conference opponents.

Week 11: Alabama at Ole Miss

Nov. 12, TBD

This game is certainly more of an upset watch than a true 50-50 matchup, but it will nonetheless be interesting to watch Kiffin, one of the most notable former Alabama assistants and past offensive coordinator, square off against his old boss. The two coaches have history after Saban took a chance on Kiffin, who had been fired by USC before joining the Tide’s staff. Their stark personality differences always make for a fun story line when the two teams face off.

Week 12: Georgia at Kentucky

Nov. 19, TBD

Preseason hype around Kentucky has been full throttle this year, with PFF ranking the team at No. 11 overall in its college football preview magazine. (Granted, the Bulldogs sit soundly at No. 2 in the rankings as well). Kentucky’s 10-win season in 2021 was its fourth of the kind in school history, but two of those have come in the last four years as the team starts to remake a name for itself in the SEC.

Week 13: Auburn at Alabama

Nov. 26, TBD

The Iron Bowl needs little introduction for college football fans, but nonetheless, if there was any doubt about which game to watch in the last week—it’s this one. In a Saturday full of college football rivalries across all conferences, this one still deserves the hype it gets every year. (Though It may be hard to live up to last year’s game, in which Alabama needed four overtimes to survive an upset attempt by Auburn).
