The team is coming off of a 6-2 loss to Wisconsin after beating the Badgers 6-2 in the first of their two games. Nash Nienhuis and Cole Krygier scored one goal apiece in the second period to keep the game within reach after the Badgers took an early 2-0 lead. However, it wasn't enough and Wisconsin went on to score four more unanswered goals in the win.

The Fighting Irish come into Friday's game with an overall record of 15-14-5 and Big Ten record of 10-10-4.
The team picked up a 2-1 win over Michigan its last time out after tying the Wolverines 3-3 in the first game between the two. Drew Bavaro scored both goals for the Irish to elevate the team past a strong Michigan team.
When these two teams met earlier this season, Michigan State won both meetings with a 3-0 win in the first game and a 3-2 win in the second.
