How to Watch Gran Piemonte: Stream Cycling Live, TV Channel

Venerable Italian cycling race is a day for the sprinters but the climbers will also have their say in the 106th edition of the Gran Piemonte.

The 106th running of the Gran Piemonte, a single-day cycling race in Italy's Apennine Mountains, is set for Thursday. The 123-mile course begins in Omegna and finishes in Beinasco. While the route is mainly flat, there will be climbs, with gradients reaching double digits near RIvodora as they ascend the slopes of the Collina di Superga. The last three miles are on flat roads with a 550-yard straight conducive to a sprint finish. Some of the world's top sprinters are in the field, including Mark Cavendish, Elia Viviani and Giacomo Nizzolo. Other top riders scheduled to ride are Alberto Bettiol, Matteo Trentin and Davide Ballerini.

Matt Walls of Great Britain took the win in a tightly bunched finish last year, edging out Nizzolo as 10 riders finished with identical times of 3:34:47.

Walls is out of the competition as he recovers from injuries sustained in a crash at the 2022 Commonwealth Games where his bike was catapulted over the barrier and into the crowd. Walls was competing in the 15-kilometer scratch race at the Games. He was a gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021 in the Omnium event.

As might be expected, a whopping 81 Gran Piemonte races have been won by Italian cyclists, but the last was Sonny Colbrelli in 2019.

Regional restrictions may apply.
