National Geographic—also called Nat Geo—is an American television network that airs documentary programming, often focusing on nature and science, but also looking into other things at times, such as animals and history. National Geographic also has a sister station, Nat Geo Wild, that focuses even more on animal programming, with shows about wild animals and animals in captivity. The original channel launched in 2001, expanding the long-running National Geographic brand into the television broadcasting world. The channel airs both regular series and also documentary films.

Nat Geo sees a lot of new documentary films released each year. In 2022, the main channel saw two new films come out, while Nat Geo Wild saw 11 new specials, including nine that focused on sharks, as the network attempted to go up against Discovery in the battle for shark programming supremacy.

Additionally, new television series come out every year as well. Shows like America's National Parks and Something Bit Me! premiered in 2022.

As far as longer-running programming goes, shows like Secrets of the Zoo and Drain the Oceans have run for four seasons. Shows that have been around even longer include Dr. K's Exotic Animal ER, Dr. Oakley, Yukon Vet, Life Below Zero and The Incredible Dr. Pol.
