How to Spend Thanksgiving on the Couch: All-Day Sports Schedule, TV Coverage

Spend the day fueling up to watch your favorite sports with this morning-to-night schedule of football games and World Cup matchups.
Two Lions players celebrate next to the endzone

The Lions are 37-43-2 in Thanksgiving Day games.

The tradition of football on Thanksgiving Day began in 1934 with the Lions, and since then it has evolved to include many other teams that have been slated into the rotation. But it’s the Cowboys and the Lions that are the heart of the tradition: with the exception of a few years, both teams have played on Thanksgiving Day each year for more than 50 years. What started as strategy by then-Detroit owner George A. Richards to attract more fans has morphed into a holiday staple that football watchers can count on each year.

While the turkey is being cooked or the leftover stuffing is being packed away, here is a complete sports schedule to keep you glued to the couch all day long—and this year, sports fans can get started first thing in the morning with the FIFA World Cup games also in the mix.
