How to Watch Japanese Grand Prix Qualifying: Stream Formula 1 Live, TV Channel

Retiring Sebastian Vettel looks for one more bit of Formula 1 qualifying magic at the Suzuka Circuit on Saturday before the Japan grand prix.

Qualifying for Sunday's Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix is set for Saturday at the Suzuka International Racing Course, three years after the race was last run in 2019. Then with Ferrari, Sebastian Vettel posted a 1:27.064 lap in the third qualifying session to win the pole. Vettel, a four-time world champion, is retiring at the end of this season, which will have four races remaining after Japan. Vettel is a four-time winner at Suzuka, taking the top of the podium four times in a five-year stretch from 2009-13. Vettel wound up second in 2019 after a poor start allowed Valtteri Bottas to take the lead and the Finn wound up taking the top of the podium.

In Friday's wet practice session, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes posted the fastest laps, both coming in the second session. Veteran Fernando Alonso had the third-best lap, posting the best run in FP1.

Suzuka Circuit is a 3.608-mile course with 18 turns. Hamilton set the record for the fastest race lap in 2019 with a 1:30.983. It first hosted F1 racing in 1987 and has done so since, save for 2007-08, when the race was held at Fuji Speedway and the pandemic cancellations in 2020 and 2021.

With a victory and the fastest lap on Sunday, Red Bull's Max Verstappen will clinch his second consecutive Formula 1 title.
