How to Watch Spanish Grand Prix: Stream Formula 1 Live, TV Channel

Max Verstappen starts on the pole Sunday as he looks for his fifth win in seven Formula 1 races this season in the Spanish Grand Prix on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Max Verstappen of Red Bull emerged from an eventful qualifying session on Saturday with the pole position for Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix in the Montmeló section of Barcelona. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya opened in 1991 and has undergone several changes since. This year, the Spanish Grand Prix will use the MotoGP layout introduced in 2021, removing the chicane in the last part of the lap and reverting those final corners to a sweeping fast configuration that had been a feature of the F1 course until 2006. That makes the layout slightly shorter — 2.892 miles down from 2.894 — for the 2023 edition of the race.

Verstappen won at Catalunya last year and in 2016 and a third win would put the two-time defending world champion in a group with Jackie Stewart, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost and Mika Hakkinen as three-time winners. Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton share the record with six victories.

Ferrari's Carlos Sainz will start in P2 after teammate Charles Leclerc stunningly didn't make it past the first qualifying session. Last year's polesitter will start 19th in the 20-car field. Lando Norris of McLaren and Mercedes' Hamilton are on the second row, with Lance Stroll of Aston Martin and Alpine's Esteban Ocon on row three.

Pierre Gasly of Alpine qualified fourth but will be dropped to 10th after a pair of three-position grid penalties were assessed after qualifying. It was determined Gasly interfered with both Verstappen and Sainz.
