The IIHF World Juniors Tournament is down to four teams and Friday night Finland takes on Sweden in the second semifinal. Sweden got a tough 2-1 win over Latvia in the quarterfinals, while Finland had a much easier time beating Germany 5-2. The winner will move on to the finals against either Canada or Czechia on Saturday night. The loser will still have something to play for as they will get to go for a bronze medal also on Saturday. Finland finished runner-up in Group A behind Canada and has lost just a single game in the tournament. That loss was to the Canadian team. Friday it will look to get a big win in the semifinals to get another shot at taking on Canada in the final.
Sweden also finished second in its pool just behind the United States. It got a favorable matchup in the quarterfinals against Latvia, but it got a tough game and needed a goal halfway through the third period to give them a tough 2-1 win. Friday it will look to grind out another win and make its first gold medal game since 2018.
