These two were very evenly matched in the opener as both clubs only scored in the first, fifth and tenth innings. Only one hit separated the two clubs but the difference was that the Mud Hens scored four in the 10th inning while the Cubs could only come back with one in the bottom of the frame.

Both starters factored into a no-decision giving up five hits and four runs each. The Cubs had a knack for coming back as they matched everything the Mud Hens put up in regulation. But the 10th became too much for Cubs pitching. The Mud Hens scored by using every aspect of small ball you could think of.
The Mud Hens walked, got a sac bunt, stole a base and if that wasn't enough, Toledo scored on a throwing error. Toledo got what turned out to be the game-winner with an RBI single by Kody Clemens who is Roger Clemens' son. Third baseman Josh Lester broke it open with two more runs off a double. That was just too much for the home team to overcome. The Cubs will try to quickly erase that game and bounce back with a day game today. Even in Iowa, the Cubs can be known for day games.
