The Atlanta Braves are still within striking distance of the New York Mets in the NL East and they got a little closer to their goal on Friday. Atlanta beat New York 9-6 in the second game of this four-game set. It was a nice bounce-back game for the Braves who dropped the series opener and were in trouble of losing three in a row all to their closest competition in the division. Amazingly the Braves have not lost three in a row all season.

The Mets didn't add much at the trade deadline so we're left wondering if this team is enough to continue their great regular season run and more importantly if they can make a deep playoff run. It certainly helps that they got Jacob deGrom back this week. What they've done this season without deGrom and Max Scherzer for most of the season is truly remarkable.
The Braves got the upper hand yesterday though as Taijuan Walker did not turn in a sharp start. He only pitched one inning and was responsible for eight runs. The fact that the Mets made this game even remotely close after giving up eight in two innings is impressive. Ronald Acuna Jr. led the night for Atlanta going 4-5 and Eddie Rosario hit a three-run homer to put the game out of reach early.
Atlanta will try to close the division gap even further by starting Jake Odorizzi. They got the starter from Houston in the trade for reliever Will Smith. The Mets will counter with David Peterson who is 5-2 with a 3.54 ERA. You're not going to want to miss this NL East showdown.
