The Yankees were swept in a three-game weekend series at St. Louis, losing the finale 12-9 despite four RBI from Aaron Judge. But New York pitchers walked eight and their hitters left 12 men on base in the loss. The Mariners salvaged a split with the Angels with a 6-3 victory, powered by Jesse Winker's grand slam.
Right-hander Logan Gilbert will open the series for Seattle. He is 10-4 in 22 starts with a 3.09 ERA and 1.184 WHIP in 128.1 innings. He hasn't won since July 5 and got a no-decision at New York on Tuesday, allowing six runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings.
New York has right-hander Jameson Taillon scheduled. Taillon is 10-2 with a 3.96 ERA and 1.161 WHIP in 21 starts and 113.2 innings. He faced Gilbert on Tuesday and also got a no-decision, surrendering six runs, five earned, in 4.2 innings with six walks.
