New York can clinch the season series with a win over Cincinnati.

The New York Mets (71-39) didn't rest on their laurels after taking four of five from the Atlanta Braves over the weekend, opening their three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds (44-64) with their fourth straight win. The teams meet again at Citi Field on Tuesday with the Mets holding a seven-game lead in the National League East. Cincinnati is tied with the Chicago Cubs for third place in the NL Central and is just a half-game ahead of the last-place Pittsburgh Pirates. New York has won 13 of its last 15 games to expand its division lead and its pitching staff has surrendered just five runs in the last three games.

The Mets have taken three of four from the Reds, including two of three at Cincinnati in early July. On Monday, Chris Bassitt didn't allow an earned run over eight innings and Starling Marte's two-run homer in the first gave him all the support he needed in New York's 5-1 win.

On Tuesday, New York will turn to right-hander Carlos Carrasco. The 35-year-old is 12-4 in 21 starts with a 3.82 ERA and 1.283 WHIP in 117.2 innings. He has won four straight decisions. On Thursday, Carrasco allowed three runs in six innings in a victory over the Braves.

Left-hander Mike Minor will go for the Reds. The former All-Star is 1-8 in 11 starts with a 6.19 ERA and 1.571 WHIP in 56.2 innings. He hasn't won since June 13 and lost at Miami on Wednesday, allowing three runs in 5.1 innings.
