The Astros picked up the win in the series opener on Tuesday. They tagged Cy Young candidate Martin Perez - the Rangers' starter - for seven runs in five innings on their way to a 7-5 victory. It was an overpowering offensive effort altogether with the teams combining for 14 hits including four home runs. The Rangers hit three of those, while the Astros had one - a grand slam from left fielder Aledmys Diaz.
While Perez has been viewed as a Cy Young candidate, Justin Verlander - the Astros' Wednesday starter - is the favorite right now to win the award. In 20 starts this season, the 39-year-old is 15-3 with a 1.73 ERA and 0.85 WHIP. In his last start, which came against Cleveland, he threw six scoreless innings while allowing just two hits.
First pitch for this game is set for 8:10 p.m. ET. Coverage begins at 8:00 on ATT Sportsnet Southwest.
