The Astros host the Rangers in the series finale on Wednesday. They are going for their seventh win in their last 10 games.

The Houston Astros magic number to wrap up the American League West division sits at 16 games with just under a month left in the regular season. In tonight’s season series finale against the Texas Rangers they can get one step closer. Last night the Rangers beat Houston 4-3, snapping a nine-game losing streak. Corey Seager scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the seventh inning to give the Rangers just their fifth win against the Astros this season.

The Astros will start 25-year-old right hander Cristian Javier (8-9, 3.07 ERA) who is looking for his second win in as many starts and his third win against the Rangers this season. He bested Texas when these teams met in Arlington last Wednesday. Javier has not made it into the seventh inning in any of his last 10 starts, having racked up six losses in that span. 

Texas will start 24-year-old rookie southpaw Cole Ragans (0-2, 4.42 ERA), who is making his fifth big league start. Ragans has had control issues thus far, walking 10 batters and allowing 18 hits in 18. 1 innings of work.

Jose Altuve is 14-for-41 with five doubles and three home runs in his last 10 games. Altuve has a seven-game hitting streak and has six hits, including two doubles and two home runs in his last four games against the Rangers.

The Astros have a 10-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the AL West and own the best record in the American league with 87 wins.

Houston leads the season series 13-5 heading into tonight’s 19th and final meeting of the season.
