The Colorado Rockies and Chicago Cubs may be a long way away from their meetup in the NL Wild Card playoff game in 2018, but these two are trying to finish off the season on a strong note. The Rockies continue their road trip in Chicago after splitting a two-game series with the White Sox. The Cubs have to be very encouraged coming off of their last series. Chicago was able to sweep the New York Mets, putting the club's NL East lead in jeopardy. The Rockies are coming off a 3-0 win against the White Sox who are also battling for their playoff lives. The Sox still have a shot at the AL Central but need every game.

Kyle Freeland and the Rockies spoiled that pursuit at least for a day. Freeland out-dueled Dylan Cease going 6 2/3 shutout innings. Chicago actually had more hits in the game but couldn't convert on anything.
The Cubs meanwhile beat the Mets in their last game 6-3. Chicago got off to a tremendous start scoring all six runs in the first inning. They knocked out starter David Peterson after only getting one out. They'll look to maintain that momentum of the sweep by starting veteran Marcus Stroman for this opener. Stroman is 3-7 but has a 3.91 ERA. The Rockies will counter with German Marquez who is 8-10 with a 5.25 ERA.
