The Astros got the series-opening win with a two-run homer by Aledmys Diaz in the seventh to break open the game. It was close before the seventh tied at two but the Astros were able to create some distance at home when it counted most. Astros pitching was even more dominant only giving up three hits the entire game.
They'll try to keep up with that pitching performance in game two tonight when they'll start Justin Verlander who is 16-3 with a 1.84 ERA. He is having one of the best seasons of his illustrious career. He hasn't pitched since the end of August though after dealing with a calf injury. His return before the playoffs should be highly anticipated. The Athletics will start Adrian Martinez who is 4-4 with a 5.59 ERA.
