Last night the Mariners snapped a three-game losing streak behind a Carlos Santana fifth-inning grand slam, his first of two home runs on the night, in a 9-1 win against the Los Angeles Angels. Santana hit four home runs in the four-game series against the Angels, bringing the designated hitter’s total to seven home runs in the month of September.
The A’s will start JP Sears (5-2, 3.90 ERA), who is looking for his first win since allowing one run on six hits in a 5-3 win over the Mariners back on Aug. 21. Sears' has a 9.75 ERA in September.
Seattle counters with Luis Castillo (7-5, 2.68 ERA), who is making his fourth start of September where he has been dynamite. He's allowed 14 hits in 17.2 innings, has 21 strikeouts, and is 2-0 with an ERA of 1.53. The 29-year-old All-Star has a 2.37 ERA since joining the club via trade from Cincinnati in August.
Tonight’s game is the 14th meeting between the clubs this season with Seattle holding an 8-5 advantage.
