The AL West champion Houston Astros go for the sweep in the series finale at Tampa Bay against the Rays; a huge matchup and potential playoff preview.

On a 17-3 run as the playoffs loom, the Houston Astros tonight wrap up a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays and could do so in shutout fashion after winning the first two games in the series by a combined 9-0 score. The Rays have dropped five of their last eight but still remain in the running for a wild-card spot, trailing the Toronto Blue Jays by two games entering today. With the AL’s third-best home record, the Rays have lost three of their last five at Tropicana Field. The Astros will send Lance McCullers, Jr (3-1, 2.34 ERA) to the mound for his seventh start after missing the majority of the season with a forearm injury.

McCullers comes into tonight off a dazzling 11 strikeout performance in Thursday night’s 5-2 win against Oakland and has two wins in his last three starts. His addition into the starting rotation is only going to further bolster the Astros playoff chances alongside veteran Justin Verlander returning from the injured list.

Corey Kluber (10-9, 4.44 ERA) gets the start for the Ray in search of his first win in his last three starts after back-to-back appearances where he allowed 10 earned runs in six-and-one-third innings pitched.

Rays catcher Christian Bethancourt enters on an eight-game hitting streak and is hitting .361 with two home runs and three RBIs in his last 10 games.
