24-year-old rookie Louie Varland (0-2, 5.06 ERA) makes his third major league start since being called up to the Twins in early September. The Saint Paul, Minnesota, native made his debut against the Yankees on Sept. 7, allowing a home run to Aaron Judge. He has allowed a home run in each of three previous starts.
Veteran right-hander Lucas Giolito (10-9, 5.05 ERA) will get the start for the White Sox today in search of his first win since Aug. 24, a span of five starts. Giolito allowed two runs on six hits in five innings of work against the Twins in a 5-1 loss back on Sept. 4.
White Sox left fielder AJ Pollock is 12-for-39 with a double and three home runs over the last 10 games and currently has a five-game hitting streak.
Minnesota leads the season series between these two teams 9-6.
