Two of baseball's top workhorses face each other on Friday night as the Houston Astros (12-9) visit the Miami Marlins (6-15) at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Sarasota. Reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara gets his final spring tuneup for Miami. He has allowed one run in 10-plus innings for the Marlins and also pitched for the Dominican Republic at the World Baseball Classic. Left-hander Framber Valdez takes the ball for the Astros, having allowed three runs in nearly 14 innings in Florida. Alcantara and Valdez were two of the eight pitchers to top 200 innings last season, with Alcantara leading MLB with almost 229 and Valdez topping the American League at over 201.

World Series MVP Jeremy Peña hit a solo homer in the sixth to get Houston on the board Thursday and got an eighth-inning rally started with an RBI double in the Astros' 5-4 win over the Nationals. José Abreu tied the game with a two-run double and Jake Meyers knocked in the go-ahead run with a single to center field.

The Marlins last played on Wednesday, playing the Cardinals to a 0-0 tie. Trevor Rogers worked five scoreless innings while three relievers finished the combined five-hit shutout. Bryan De La Cruz and Jacob Stallings each had two hits for Miami.

Nick Fortes could be back for the Marlins on Friday. He's been out since March 17 with a knee ailment. Houston is without outfielder-DH Michael Brantley (shoulder) and second baseman Jose Altuve (fractured thumb).
