This will be the second game the defending Stanley Cup champions will play today as part of their split doubleheader this preseason. This is the first time the Colorado Avalanche will play since hoisting Lord Stanley's cup with a 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning last season. The first game the Avalanche will play will be against the Minnesota Wild. The second will be against the Golden Knights. Both of these squads have become huge enemies for Colorado in the past few years. What an exciting way to start the preseason as we get ready for what will be a thrilling NHL regular season.

The first team will fly out to Minnesota with coach Jared Bednar for the first game. The rest of the squad will stay in Denver to play the Golden Knights. We won't see captain Gabriel Landeskog, who is out until the start of the regular season as he is dealing with a lower-body injury. Darren Helm and Valeri Nichushkin are dealing with lower body issues as well but they've been skating so hopefully we will see these vital players tonight.
The Knights are trying to get back to the playoffs after missing them for the first time in franchise history last year. They made a lot of contract extensions and re-signings in the offseason but the biggest move they made was arguably trading Evgenii Dadonov to the Montreal Canadiens for Shea Weber.
