The Boston Bruins (1-1-0) reach the halfway point of their six-game preseason slate on Saturday afternoon when they host the Philadelphia Flyers (1-2-0) at TD Garden. The Flyers have lost two in a row since beating Boston in their exhibition opener while the Bruins last played on Tuesday, an overtime victory at home over the Rangers. Boston was a wild-card in last year's playoffs, losing in seven games to the Hurricanes in the first round. Former Dallas coach Jim Montgomery took over for Bruce Cassidy, who was with the Bruins for six seasons. Philadelphia also has a new bench boss, veteran coach John Tortorella.

The Flyers last played on Wednesday, dropping a 3-1 decision at home to the Capitals. Kevin Hayes had the only goal for Philadelphia. On Tuesday in Boston, A.J. Green scored his second goal of the game 1:12 into overtime to lift the Bruins to a 3-2 win over the Rangers. Oskar Steen added a shorthanded goal that tied the game in the third period.
Besides replacing interim coach Mike Yeo with Tortorella, the Flyers' biggest moves of the offseason were trading for defenseman Tony DeAngelo and re-signing blueliner Justin Braun.
Boston re-signed captain Patrice Bergeron to a one-year deal to return for a 19th season. The 37-year-old is still productive, scoring 25 goals and winning his fifth Selke Trophy as the NHL's top defensive forward last season. The Bruins also brought back veteran center David Krejci, who played in his native Czechia last season and acquired center Pavel Zacha from the Devils.
