The New York Islanders (21-15-2) began 2023 by kicking off a four-game West Coast road trip on New Year's Day on Sunday. The Islanders dropped that game 4-1 to the Seattle Kraken. Now, the Islanders continue that trip on Tuesday, looking for their first win when they head north of the border to take on the Vancouver Canucks (16-17-3). The Canucks have won three of their last five, but lost their last time out, falling to the Calgary Flames 3-2 on New Year's Eve. This game will be the first meeting between the Islanders and Canucks this season.

Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin has been one of the best goalies in the NHL this season. His 2.30 goals against average ranks second in the league and his 92.6 save percentage ranks third. 

Sorokin will face a real test against Vancouver. The Canucks have scored 137 goals this season, tied for the fourth-most in the NHL. Center Bo Horvat leads the team with 26 goals, although Elias Pettersson has the team lead for points with 44 in 34 games.
