Dodgers Look to Stay Rolling vs. Brewers

Plus, aces duel when Justin Verlander takes on Dylan Cease.

We’ve got tennis on (with some of the biggest stars in action) all day today! And if that’s not enough daytime entertainment for you on a Tuesday, two of the biggest women’s soccer clubs in Europe face off this afternoon. Plus, we’ve got an evening filled with intriguing MLB action, as the Brewers look to tame baseball’s hottest team, the race for the AL Cy Young award heats up and the Orioles hope to continue their surprise playoff push.

Here’s what I’m watching today

A quick note: Due to COVID-19, sports schedules are fluid and subject to change.

MUST WATCH:

Los Angeles Dodgers at Milwaukee Brewers

Brandon Woodruff pitches for the Milwaukee Brewers.

They had a 12-game winning streak snapped over the weekend, but no team looks better than the Dodgers right now. Can Brandon Woodruff find a way to beat them tonight? The Brewers’ righthander is one of the better pitchers in the National League when at his best, and he’s been excellent lately, pitching to an era below 2.50 in his last seven starts. But as the Brewers fight for the NL Central crown, any win they can steal against a team as good as the Dodgers is a big deal.

LINEUP:

• Western & Southern Open | The headliner of today’s action from Cincinnati is Serena Williams taking on Emma Raducanu. With only a few more chances left to watch Williams before she walks away from the game, you won’t want to miss this. And on the men’s side, highly ranked stars such Daniil Medvedev and Carlos Alcaraz are scheduled to take the court. All day, Tennis Channel, watch on fuboTV

• Women’s soccer: Paris Saint-Germain vs. Manchester United | This is a tune-up match for the season ahead, but it’s a good chance to catch some of the stars of the 2022 women’s Euros in action. Man United features Ella Toone, who scored the first goal for England in the Euro final. 3 p.m. ET, CBS Sports Network, watch on fuboTV

• Baltimore Orioles at Toronto Blue Jays | The Orioles may have operated like sellers at the trade deadline, but Baltimore isn’t out of the playoff picture yet. With all five AL East teams still in the postseason mix, divisional games matter just a bit more for the Birds as they fight for a playoff spot. Can they beat Toronto tonight and inch closer to an unlikely postseason berth? 7:07 p.m. ET, Sportsnet/MASN, watch on fuboTV

HIDDEN GEM:

Houston Astros at Chicago White Sox

It’s hard to imagine a better pitching matchup than this one, which showcases the pitchers with the two best ERAs in baseball against one another. Justin Verlander has been dominant after going nearly two full seasons without pitching, and he currently leads all of baseball in ERA, WHIP and wins. Meanwhile, perhaps no pitcher in baseball has better stuff than Cease, who has struck out 174 hitters in under 130 innings of work and should be in the mix for the AL Cy Young award.
