Packers vs. Chiefs Headlines Start of NFL Preseason Week 3

Plus, the Guardians look to expand their lead in the AL Central.

The WNBA’s semifinals are set, as the Sun surged past the Wings in the second half to lock up the final spot in the second round last night. Playoff action continues Sunday afternoon with Game 1’s for both series.

Today, we shift our focus to football. It’s a big weekend ahead, with the opening of the college football season coming Saturday. Until then, we’ve got NFL preseason action to look forward to.

Here’s what I’m watching today.

A quick note: Due to COVID-19, sports schedules are fluid and subject to change.

MUST WATCH:

Green Bay Packers at Kansas City Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers

We’re likely to see few if any of the stars that will suit up with these teams come the start of the regular season, as Aaron Rodgers won’t play tonight and Patrick Mahomes’s status is still undecided. Still, these two potential Super Bowl contenders have work to do rounding out their rosters, and these preseason games help finalize those decisions with the start of the regular season exactly two weeks away.

HIDDEN GEM:

Cleveland Guardians at Seattle Mariners

The Guardians have opened up a four-game lead in the hotly contested AL Central as we approach September, aided by a recent losing skid by the Twins to finally give Terry Francona’s club some breathing room. Winning this weekend’s four-game set with the Mariners would be another step toward clinching that division crown, and the Guardians are sending talented young righthander Triston McKenzie to the mound this afternoon after striking out 14 White Sox hitters in his last start.
