UNLV (18-3) climbed to within a half-match of first place in the Mountain West Conference with a 3-1 victory at home over San Jose State and on Saturday heads north to the Virginia Street Gym in Reno for a matchup with archrival Nevada (10-10). The Wolfpack had a three-match winning streak snapped on Tuesday at San Jose State. The Rebels have won seven consecutive matches against Nevada, including the last three in straight sets. UNLV has won its last five matches in Reno dating back to 2017. Last season, the Rebels won the championship of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship after losing to Boise State in the WAC tournament final.

UNLV handed San Jose State its first conference loss on Thursday night in a marathon four-setter, winning 30-32, 25-19, 25-21, 39-37. The Rebels were strong at the net with 13 blocks, with Ellease Crumpton notching six. Isabel Martin contributed 20 kills and Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos added 16 while Jhenna Gabriel notched 17 digs and 41 assists.
When the Wolfpack faced the Spartans on Tuesday, they won the first game before fading in a 25-20, 13-25, 18-25, 14-25 loss. Kayla Afoa paced Nevada with 12 kills, three blocks and eight digs, while Gabby McLaughlin also had 12 kills. Bella Snyder posted eight blocks in the loss.
UNLV leads the all-time series 28-10.
