The Las Vegas Aces look to take a commanding lead at home against the Connecticut Sun in the WNBA Finals today.

Despite the final score, the Las Vegas Aces controlled the first game of the 2022 WNBA Finals and could have potentially won by double digits against the Connecticut Sun. They took the game 67-64, but only because two bad turnovers late while trying to run out the clock gave Connecticut multiple opportunities to score and get back in the game. Freshly named MVP and Defensive Player of the Year A’ja Wilson picked up right where she left off in the semifinals along with running mate Chelsea Gray as the duo got whatever they wanted all game. The MVP was on her game in the first game of the WNBA Finals with 24 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks and two steals while going 12-for-14 from the line.

Wilson is now a two-time league MVP, the youngest player ever to accomplish that feat and now looks to add another trophy to her case in the WNBA Championship.

She is getting all the help she can ask for from Gray, who added 21 points and three assists in game one, closing the game out with several huge shots and assists to push her team to a victory.

On the other side, the Sun have to get back to the drawing board and see what worked in the second and fourth periods (32-46) and what failed them in the first and third periods (32-22).

One factor that is absolutely on Connecticut’s side is rebounding (38 total, plus five, especially on the offensive end as they finished with 13 offensive rebounds (plus seven) taking full advantage of them with second chance points all night.
