Ledecky selected USA Swimming Athlete of the Year

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) Katie Ledecky was honored as the USA Swimming Athlete of the Year for the second straight season and took the Phillips 66 Performance Award for her record-breaking performance in the 1,500-meter freestyle at the Pan Pacific Championships.

Ledecky, the Olympic gold medalist and world record-holder from Bethesda, Maryland, received the awards Saturday night at the United States Aquatic Sports Convention.

Ledecky had five world-record swims over a two-month stretch this summer, capped with world records in the 400 and 1,500 freestyles on consecutive nights in Australia at the Pan Pacific meet.
