Shipulin wins biathlon mass-start race in Slovenia

POKLJUKA, Slovenia (AP) Anton Shipulin of Russia sprinted away from three rivals to win a 15-kilometer mass-start race for his second biathlon World Cup victory in three days on Sunday, while Kaisa Makarainen of Finland won the women's event.

Shipulin pulled away from Martin Fourcade of France, Simon Eder of Austria and Fredrik Lindstrom of Sweden to finish in 35 minutes, 16.8 seconds. Fourcade was 1.2 seconds back in second place to reclaim the overall World Cup lead, with Eder another 0.2 seconds back in third.

Shipulin also won Friday's sprint race before coming second in Saturday's pursuit.

Makarainen extended her overall lead after overcoming two early misses to finish in 34:18.8, beating Anais Bescond of France by 7.6 seconds. Nadezhda Skardino was 15.8 back in third.
