ADELBODEN, Switzerland (AP) Overall World Cup leader Marcel Hirscher took a commanding lead in the first run of a giant slalom on Saturday.

Hirscher was 0.55 faster than last year's winner here, Felix Neureuther of Germany, timing 1 minute, 17.18 seconds on a course kept firm with salt after steady rain Friday.

Alexis Pinturault of France, the Olympic bronze medalist in GS, was third, trailing Hirscher by 0.96.

Olympic and world champion Ted Ligety of the United States was fifth, with 1.25 to make up in the second run this afternoon.

Hirscher can extend his GS standings lead over Ligety with victory.

Pinturault was among several French racers who wore ''Je Suis Charlie'' messages on their helmets, showing support for their home country after a traumatic week of terrorist incidents.
