Geisenberger leads German sweep at luge World Cup

OBERHOF, Germany (AP) Natalie Geisenberger led a German sweep of the top three positions to extend a commanding lead in the standings with her sixth luge World Cup win from seven on Sunday.

The Olympic and World Cup champion was fastest in the first run and quick enough in the second to win in a combined time of 1 minute, 23.104 seconds, edging Tatjana Huefner by 0.072 seconds and Dajana Eltberger by 0.255.

''It's going fantastically. I can't really explain it in words,'' Geisenberger said after her 29th World Cup win.

Huefner set a new track record with her second run.

Canada's Alex Gough was the highest placed non-German in fourth, 0.368 back, ahead of Germany's Anke Wischnewski in fifth.

Geisenberger leads the standings after seven of 12 events with 670 points, ahead of Huefner on 475 and Eltberger on 441.

Later Sunday, Geisenberger helped ensure Germany made it a clean sweep across all competitions for the second weekend in a row with victory in the team relay.

Geisenberger, Felix Loch and then doubles team Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt were all quickest in their individual runs for Germany to win in a combined time of 2 minutes, 23.279 seconds.

Loch and Wendl/Arlt had already won the men's and doubles' competitions on Saturday.

The United States team of Emily Sweeney, Chris Mazdzer and Matthew Mortensen/Jayson Terdiman was second, 0.783 seconds back, while Russia's Tatiana Ivanova, Semen Pavlichenko and Alexandr Denisyev/Vladislav Antonov were third, 0.851 back.

The Canadian team of Gough, Samuel Edney and Tristan Walker/Justin Snith finished fourth, 1.196 back.
