Graabak claims 1st Nordic Combined World Cup win

VAL DI FIEMME, Italy (AP) Olympic champion Joergen Graabak won his first individual Nordic Combined World Cup event on Sunday, completing a great weekend for the Norwegian.

Graabak, who was part of the winning team sprint pair on Saturday along with Jan Schmid, beat Bernhard Gruber of Austria by 3.8 seconds. Germany's Fabian Riessle was third, 4.1 behind Graabak.

The 23-year-old Graabak was 11th after the ski jump, won by Austria's Christoph Bieler, but fourth fastest in the 10-kilometer cross country race.

Bieler finished 25th.

World Cup leader Eric Frenzel of Germany was disqualified due to irregular equipment and saw Gruber close the gap to 241 points in the overall standings.

Schmid remained third in the standings after his fourth-place finish on Sunday.
