NEW YORK (AP) Bret Boone figures the best way to tell a baseball story is through his own family.

The former Gold Glove second baseman has a deal with the Crown division of Penguin Random House for the memoir ''Runs In the Family.'' He is the son, grandson and brother of former major leaguers.

Literary agent Steve Ross and Crown editor Matt Inman announced the deal Friday. Inman tells The Associated Press that the book is tentatively scheduled to be released in May 2016.

Boone will write about his famously hot temper and his struggles with alcoholism and will include anecdotes about such notables as Joe DiMaggio and Barry Bonds.

Boone's grandfather, Ray, was a power-hitting infielder. His father, Bob, was a star catcher. Brother Aaron is an ESPN analyst and former infielder.
