East beats West in McDonald's All-American boys game 111-91

CHICAGO (AP) Cheick Diallo took everybody by surprise - except himself.

He says he was targeting the MVP award at the boy's McDonald's All-American game and that's exactly what he did.

Diallo scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds to lead the East to a 111-91 win over the West in the prestigious game among high school stars.

Diallo was one of the eight undecided players in the game on their college choice.

One of his options is St. John's, but the 6-9, 230-pound forward said he didn't know new coach Chris Mullin.

''I really don't know him, so I don't want to talk about him,'' said Diallo.

The Mali native is also choosing among Iowa State, Kansas, Kentucky and Pittsburgh.

Diamond Stone, who verbally committed to Maryland last week, added 14 points for the East.

But he was surprised by his performance.

''That I had three rebounds. I probably never had three rebounds in my life. That was shocking. I let the game come to me. I just happened to have 14 and three,'' said Stone.

Trailing 69-61, the East went on an 8-0 run in the second half to tie the score at 69.

Antonio Blakeney, an LSU commit, had two dunks in the span. Dwayne Bacon, a Florida State commit, opened up the lead for the East with a three-point play to put the East up 76-71.

Diallo extended the East lead to 83-72 after spinning by Jalen Brunson for an impressive layup.

''That's kind of natural because when I was younger I used to play soccer,'' said Diallo.

Allonzo Trier finished with 17 points for the West and Brandon Ingram had 15 points.

The East led 49-46 at the half. Isaiah Briscoe led the East with nine points and Diallo scored eight and had seven rebounds in the half. Briscoe is signed with Kentucky.

Ingram kept the West in the game with 13 first-half points. The 6-8 small forward is also undecided.

The West's Stephen Zimmerman Jr. and Carlton Bragg woke up the crowd in the first half with back-to-back dunks. Bragg followed the 7-footer's dunk with a breakaway windmill slam.

Brunson, whose father, Rick, played in the game in 1991, finished with six points and seven rebounds.
