KENNER, La. (AP) Three-time Olympic champion Kerri Walsh Jennings and silver medalist April Ross won the season-opening New Orleans Open on Sunday to extend their AVP Tour winning streak to eight events.

The top-seeded Walsh Jennings and Ross beat No. 3 Jennifer Kessy and Emily Day 21-16, 22-20 in the final.

Walsh Jennings and Ross swept all five of their matches and have won 42 consecutive sets dating to August. They have won nine of the 10 AVP tournaments they have played together. Walsh Jennings won her 74th AVP tournament title and 125th worldwide.

Ross and Kessy, longtime partners who earned silver medals at the 2012 Olympics, faced each other for the first time since their partnership split. Kessy sat out last season for the birth of her first child.

In the men's final, top-seeded Jake Gibb and Casey Patterson beat No. 2 Phil Dalhausser and Sean Rosenthal 23-21, 21-14. They have four straight tour victories and nine in 16 events together.
