LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) U.S. luger Chris Mazdzer is the first athlete elected to the International Luge Federation Board.

Luge is one of seven international federations representing sports for the Winter Olympics. Mazdzer now holds a voting position on luge's executive board.

The international federation passed an amendment at its meeting this week in South Korea, clearing the way for Mazdzer's election.

The 26-year-old Mazdzer is from Saranac Lake, New York. He has been the chairman on the athletes' council for luge the past two years. He's also a member of the board of directors of the U.S. Luge Association.
