She is only the fifth woman to ride a horse in the Cup and the first to win. She's ridden the 6-year-old horse all of his racing career and says she's always considered him a potential Melbourne Cup winner. ''He just burst to the front and I've never yelled so loud at a horse in all my life. This is everybody's dream as a jockey in Australia.'' The Melbourne Cup, raced since 1861, is known as ''the race that stops a nation.'' Australians traditionally stop work at 3 p.m. on the first Tuesday in November to watch the two-mile race at Melbourne's Flemington racecourse. The horse was a 100-1 outsider in betting before the race, worth AU$6.2 million ($4.4 million) this year.
